The Welsh Dee Trust is now the Dee Trust.
This change helps better reflect the reality of our work across the whole River Dee catchment, which spans both Wales and England.
Why the change?
Earlier this year, we carried out a brand survey which showed that 25% of people who completed it did not realise we work in England. We also heard from individuals and organisations who said they had not contacted us because they assumed our work was limited to Wales. In some cases, people believed we did not operate in England at all.
This confusion was creating a barrier to our work, engagement and partnerships across the Dee catchment.

A clearer name for a shared river
By becoming the Dee Trust, we are making it clear that we work for the entire River Dee, regardless of borders. The river does not recognise administrative boundaries, and neither does the environmental work needed to protect and restore it.
What hasn’t changed
Our purpose, values, and work remain the same. We continue to protect and restore the River Dee and its tributaries through science-led, community-driven action. Our team, partnerships, and programmes are unchanged. Visually, we have kept the new branding very similar to our previous look, ensuring the Trust remains recognisable.
Our Welsh name
Our Welsh name is now Cynefin Dyfrdwy. Cynefin is a uniquely Welsh word meaning habitat, home, or a place of belonging, and Dyfrdwy is the Welsh name for the River Dee. Together, the name reflects the river as a shared home for wildlife and people.
