It Shouldn’t Be In The Dee

‘Create a community-led approach to eliminate sources of pollution’

The sources of pollution in the River Dee are wide and varied, from sewage treatment works to roadside drains. With many different sources and pathways, it is a complex problem that cannot be solved alone.

‘It Shouldn’t Be in the Dee’ brings people together to take practical action to protect the river for wildlife and communities.

Through this initiative, people can take part in litter picks, citizen science pollution monitoring, aquatic invertebrate sampling and practical activities to stop pollution entering the river.

By equipping communities with the skills and confidence to identify, report and reduce pollution, we are building a growing network of people working towards a Dee free of pollution.

Volunteer Voices

The communities and individuals are at the heart of this programme, taking action for the River Dee and connecting with their community.

‘Being from North Wales and now living in Chester, the River Dee has always been close to my heart. Since volunteering for the Trust I have been able to give something back. Whether it’s litter picking and planting trees along the tributaries or recording numbers of trout and salmon there’s nothing better than gathering around the Kelly Kettle at the end of a session, looking back on a job well done.’
