We were proud to see our CEO, Peter Powell, featured on ITV News last night, sharing expert insight into the growing environmental pressures facing the River Dee during this period of prolonged drought.
In the interview, Peter highlighted how reduced river flows are already having serious consequences for the health of the river. One major concern is the obstruction of Atlantic salmon migration, these rely on strong, consistent flows to reach their spawning grounds. Low water levels also mean pollutants become more concentrated, increasing the risk to wildlife and water quality.
These issues are stark reminders of the urgent need for effective river conservation and long-term strategies to build resilience in the face of climate change. At Welsh Dee Trust, we are committed to restoring and protecting the Dee, but we know this can’t be done alone, it requires collaborative action from all river stakeholders.
