The River Dee crosses from Wales into England, with tributaries spanning seven local authorities, and provides drinking water for 2.5 million people. As a result, a wide range of organisations are involved in managing and improving the river, each operating within different systems, priorities and regulatory frameworks.

The Dee Trust is the only organisation working across the entire Dee catchment, covering all local authorities and both countries. Through this programme, we are establishing a shared, non-statutory framework that brings partners together to improve coordination, reduce duplication and increase the impact of investment.

This work focuses on moving from ambition to coordinated delivery. By building a shared understanding of the challenges, aligning data and evidence, and developing a joint programme of work, partners can agree clear, measurable actions.

Through this approach, organisations commit to specific actions and are held accountable for delivery, improving transparency and ensuring that effort and funding are directed where they will have the greatest impact.

By working together in this way, we can deliver a more joined-up, efficient and effective approach to restoring the River Dee.
